How To: Essential Oil Perfume

img_1595Essential oils are the newest craze in the holistic lifestyle. They have become so popular that they have crossed over into wide use by the general population. Everybody from personal suppliers to chain stores have tried to capitalize on this current fad by creating and selling these mixtures to the public. However, I’ve found that it’s just as cost-effective to create your own blend at home. While devices such as a diffuser are useful at home for oil use, it becomes a bit more difficult to use these oils on the go. So, I’m going to provide for you an easy way to utilize these oils during your daily travels.

Obviously, perfume can be made in many different variations and even in numerous distinctive containers. Therefore, I’m going to share with you my own preferred method which is using individual roll on applicators. These roll-ons are convenient for daily use, and generally fairly priced as well as quick and easy to assemble. The applicators can be bought in bulk to save money or individually for your first experiment.

The first thing you need to do is determine which essential oils you would like to incorporate into your perfumes. Some of my personal favorites are:

  1.  Lavender (10 drops)
  2. Sage (4 drops)
  3. Tea Tree (2 drops)

This mixture promotes an overall feeling of calm and relaxation. This is great for use right before bed or perhaps prior to a stressful situation. Next:

  1. Lemongrass (8 drops)
  2. Sweet Orange (8 drops)
  3. Grapefruit (2 drops)

These essential oils are known to boost energy levels and even help to fight depression. Obviously, there are endless combinations that can be used and it’s all up to the creativity and the needs of the maker.

The actual integration of these oils into your bottle is simple. A base oil such as Almond Oil or Coconut oil (fractionated) is used to dilute the essential oil mixture. For ease I open each oil and replace the lid with a medicine dropper so I can be in control of exactly how much liquid will enter the bottle. Then the perfume can be complete in just 3 steps:

  1. Take the medicine dropper and distribute the amount of oil of your choosing into the bottle.
  2. You will fill the remainder of the bottle with the base oil you have chosen to dilute the oil.
  3. Finally, you’ll want to attach the lid and insert the ball that comes with the correlating bottle and shake well!

I hope you’ve found this segment to be informative and entertaining. Until next time!
